Takuma Sato Eyes Return to Indy 500 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2026

Two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Takuma Sato is looking forward to potentially competing in the 110th edition of the race in 2026 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. He recently participated in a two-day IndyCar test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to help test new tires, brakes, and damper components for the upcoming season. Sato has a history with RLL, having raced for them in two full-time stints and as an Indy 500-only driver since 2024.
Following the first day of testing at IMS, Sato expressed his desire to return for another Indy 500 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2026. He had a strong showing at the 109th Indy 500 earlier this year, qualifying in second place and finishing in ninth despite a chaotic race with multiple caution periods.
During the second day of testing at the Indy 500 open test in April, Sato was involved in a significant crash that resulted in a broken rib. Despite the injury, he decided to compete in the 200-lap event, showcasing his determination and resilience. At the recent IMS test, Sato provided an update on his injury, sharing a light-hearted moment about his recovery process.
Sato and fellow driver Alexander Rossi tested new brake and damper components at the IMS, part of IndyCar's evaluation for the upcoming season. While other drivers like Alex Palou and Pato O'Ward also participated in tire development testing on Tuesday, Sato and Rossi returned for the second day of testing on Wednesday. Their contributions will help shape the future of IndyCar racing and enhance the performance of the cars on the track.
