Mexico City Grand Prix: Rookie Drivers Take Center Stage in FP1 Sessions

Formula 1 is gearing up for the Mexico City Grand Prix following the United States Grand Prix. This weekend's race will feature the traditional grand prix format with three practice sessions before qualifying. Nine rookie drivers will be hitting the track during the first practice session, showcasing their skills and gaining valuable experience in an F1 environment.
The rules regarding rookie practice sessions were changed ahead of the 2025 F1 season, requiring teams to use rookie drivers in four FP1 sessions throughout the year. This change aims to provide younger drivers with opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and gain crucial experience in the competitive world of Formula 1.
The Mexico City Grand Prix is a popular choice for rookie sessions due to the layout of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. The track offers more room for error compared to street circuits, allowing drivers to push their limits. Additionally, the traditional grand prix weekend format provides two additional hours of practice after FP1, giving drivers ample time to prepare for qualifying.
IndyCar star Pato O’Ward will have another chance to drive in front of his home fans during FP1 at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Antonio Fuoco will make his FP1 debut, stepping in for Lewis Hamilton. Arvid Lindblad, Jak Crawford, Frederick Vesti, Paul Aron, Ryo Hirakawa, and Luke Browning will also be participating in FP1 sessions this weekend, fulfilling their teams' rookie practice requirements.
With several driver lineup rumors circulating in the F1 paddock, the Mexico City Grand Prix offers a valuable opportunity for young drivers to showcase their talent and potentially secure a spot on the grid for the upcoming seasons. The rookie practice sessions provide a platform for emerging talents to prove themselves and make a mark in the world of Formula 1.
