The tradition of introducing a winter ball dates back to the 2004-05 season, coinciding with the switch from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time. Since 2008-09, a new ball design has been unveiled annually to keep up with the changing times. This year, the 2025-26 version marks the 20th edition of the winter ball, coinciding with PUMA's debut as the official ball supplier for the Premier League.
