Chris Van Dusen Returns to Netflix with New Project 'Calabasas' Executive Produced by Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts

Chris Van Dusen, known for creating the hit series Bridgerton, is returning to Netflix to work on a new project called Calabasas. The show, executive produced by Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts, was acquired by Netflix in April 2024. Van Dusen will take over as the showrunner for Calabasas, replacing I. Marlene King, who was originally attached to the project but has since stepped away.

In Calabasas, the story follows Via, a 16-year-old girl from the Midwest who moves to Calabasas and must navigate the fast-paced world of Calabasas High School. The show is described as a mix of The O.C. and Beverly Hills, 90210, where appearances can be deceiving and everyone is trying to be someone else. Kardashian, a native of Calabasas, has been actively involved in the project and is a big fan of Bridgerton, which was created by Van Dusen.

Van Dusen, who received critical acclaim for Bridgerton, is also working on other projects for Netflix, including They Both Die At The End and an adaptation of Elle Kennedy's book Girl Abroad. His previous credits include Scandal and Grey's Anatomy. The collection of stories that inspired Calabasas, If You Lived Here You'd Be Famous By Now, was published in 2021 by Flatiron Books.

Kardashian is also involved in another project, the Ryan Murphy legal drama All's Fair, which is set to premiere on Hulu on November 4. Van Dusen's return to Netflix with Calabasas is highly anticipated, following the success of Bridgerton.
