Halo: Campaign Evolved - A Remake of the Classic with New Missions and Co-op Features

Microsoft and Halo Studios have announced a new remake of the original Halo game called Halo: Campaign Evolved. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC via Microsoft Store and Steam, and for the first time on PlayStation 5. It will feature three new missions that delve into events before Halo: Combat Evolved. Players can enjoy local two-player split-screen co-op on consoles and up to four-player online co-op. The game will also support crossplay and cross-progression.
Last summer, reports surfaced about a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, with the possibility of a PS5 release. In October 2024, 343 Industries rebranded as Halo Studios and hinted at multiple projects in the works.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a faithful yet modernized remake of the original game's campaign. Players will experience the story with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics, and refined controls. The game will include three new prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. With a broader arsenal of weapons, vehicles, enemies, and gameplay-modifying "Skulls," players can expect fresh tactics and endless replayability. The game offers solo play, 2-player split-screen co-op (console only), and up to 4-player online co-op with crossplay and cross-progression support.
After crash-landing on a mysterious ringworld known as Halo, Master Chief must help the remaining humans survive against the Covenant forces. Alongside Cortana, his AI companion, he uncovers the dark secrets of Halo and fights to prevent the annihilation of all life in the galaxy.
Key features of Halo: Campaign Evolved include rebuilt campaign missions with enhanced level design, updated cinematics, and improved wayfinding. The game features overhauled cinematics and audio, expanded combat and weapons, three new prequel missions, and the ability to play solo or with friends in co-op mode. Players can drive, hijack vehicles, and wreak havoc in the game, with the option to remix the campaign for endless replayability using gameplay-modifying "Skulls."
