Reviving Tradition: Del Mar College's Turkey Bowl Celebrates Campus Rivalry and 90th Anniversary

Del Mar College's faculty and staff recently revived a long-lost tradition by participating in the Turkey Bowl, a friendly flag football game held at the Heritage Campus. The event, which attracted over 120 employees, marked the return of the campus rivalry and celebrated Del Mar's 90th anniversary. The Turkey Bowl, originally known as the Viking Bowl, had its origins in 2008 and was brought back based on feedback from faculty and students. Two teams, Valdar's Warriors and the Helm Holders, competed in the game, with the Warriors emerging victorious with a 28-14 win.
The enthusiasm for the Turkey Bowl was evident among players, fans, and referees, who added to the excitement of the game. The Warriors' preparation for the matchup included rigorous training sessions and strategic planning, ultimately leading to their success on the field. Standout receiver Albert Hernandez played a crucial role in the team's victory, showcasing his speed and skills during the game. The event also featured a 90th Birthday Tailgate Party with various activities, student performances, and a sense of camaraderie among participants.
