Reviving the Glamour of Miami Vice: Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan in Talks for Iconic Roles
Austin Butler is reportedly in talks to star as James “Sonny” Crockett in the upcoming Miami Vice reboot. The actor's potential casting in the iconic role follows his recent success in high-profile projects like Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which earned him critical acclaim and award nominations. Michael B. Jordan is also in discussions to play Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in the reboot, adding to the star power of the film.
The Miami Vice reboot will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, and produced by Dylan Clark. The script, penned by Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy, will bring back the beloved characters created by Anthony Yerkovich. The movie is set for release on August 6, 2027, and will be filmed for IMAX, promising a big-screen spectacle for audiences.
The original Miami Vice series, which aired in 1984, was a cultural phenomenon that redefined TV storytelling with its unique blend of music, fashion, and action. The reboot aims to revisit the world of “glamour and corruption of mid-80s Miami,” pitting Crockett and Tubbs against the city’s criminal underworld once again. With a talented cast and creative team behind the project, fans can expect an exciting revival of the iconic series.
