Slash's Journey with Guns N' Roses: From 'Sweet Child O' Mine' to Reunion

Slash, the iconic guitarist of Guns N' Roses, initially had reservations about the band's hit song "Sweet Child O' Mine." Despite creating the memorable riff for the track, Slash felt that the ballad-like nature of the song didn't align with the band's hard rock image. However, the riff he came up with ended up inspiring the entire song, leading to its success as a defining single for the band.
While Slash is known for his legendary guitar solos on tracks like "November Rain" and "Welcome to the Jungle," he revealed that these solos were not meticulously planned. He recalled that the structure of the solos was often dictated by the chord changes in the songs, and he would let his mind wander during performances, reflecting on the spontaneous nature of his guitar work.
Despite tensions that led to his departure from Guns N' Roses in 1996, Slash reunited with the band in 2016 and maintains a positive relationship with his bandmates, including frontman Axl Rose, Duff McKagan, and Richard Fortus. Slash attributes past conflicts within the band to management issues that created friction between him and Axl Rose. However, without external influences, Slash and his bandmates now enjoy a strong camaraderie and collaboration, making music together and having a great time doing what they love.
