Mhairi Black Makes Television Acting Debut in BBC Legal Drama 'Counsels

Former Member of Parliament Mhairi Black is set to make her television acting debut in the new BBC legal drama Counsels. She will play the role of Detective Inspector Bridges in four episodes of the eight-part series, which will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Created by Bryan Elsley and Gillian McCormack, the show follows the lives of young lawyers in Glasgow as they navigate the challenges of their careers and personal relationships.

The ensemble cast includes Brandon Grace, Ro Kumar, Eilidh Park, George Prentice, Alyth Ross, and Rebecca Bell in lead roles. They are joined by established talents like Michelle Gomez, Derek Riddell, Laura Haddock, Daniela Nardini, Michael Nardone, Sally Howitt, Stuart Bowman, Neshla Caplan, and Stephen Purdon. Mhairi expressed her excitement about joining the cast and playing the role of Detective Inspector Bridges, highlighting the opportunity to work on a series set and filmed in Glasgow.

Mhairi Black, known for her historic election as the youngest MP in nearly two centuries, transitioned from politics to performance, debuting a one-woman show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and starring in a BBC documentary about her journey. Counsels, commissioned by BBC Drama and BBC Scotland, is co-created and executive produced by Bryan Elsley and Gillian McCormack, with episodes written by Maryam Hamidi and Jingan Young. The series will be distributed internationally by All3Media International and is a coproduction with ZDFneo, supported by Screen Scotland.
