Michigan Stadium Concert Success: Morgan Wallen Rumored to Headline Next Event
Michigan Stadium, the home of Michigan Wolverines football, may soon host another concert, with rumors circulating about country music star Morgan Wallen. The Michigan Athletics social media account shared a photo of a football with a Maize and Blue mascot wearing the initials "MW" on its sleeve, coinciding with a countdown clock on Wallen's website hinting at an upcoming announcement.
The stadium's inaugural concert, headlined by Zach Bryan on Sept. 27, was a massive success. The event, which also featured John Mayer, Ryan Bingham, the Texas Gentlemen, and Joshua Sloan, drew a crowd of 112,408 attendees, setting a new record for the largest ticketed concert in U.S. history. The previous record was held by George Strait at Texas A&M's Kyle Field on June 15, 2024.
A statement from AEG and Zach Bryan revealed that the concert also broke merchandise sales records, generating at least $5 million in revenue. Tickets for the event, which went on sale in February, sold out in under 2.5 hours. The concert lasted for 7 hours and concluded with a 90-second fireworks display, approved as a one-time exception by the U-M Board of Regents.
Despite the massive turnout, the event saw only two arrests for disorderly conduct, 18 ejections, and 121 medical responses, which officials deemed typical for a football Saturday in Ann Arbor. Melissa Overton, deputy chief of police for DPSS, praised the concert's public safety measures and noted that lessons learned from the event would be applied to future concerts and non-football dates.
