Washington Capitals Host Hockey Fights Cancer Night: A Tribute to Cancer Fighters and Research Support

The Washington Capitals are hosting Hockey Fights Cancer Night presented by Leidos on November 22nd. This event is part of Hockey Fights Cancer Month, a collaborative effort between the NHL and NHLPA to raise funds for cancer research and educate fans about cancer risk factors. The Capitals have planned various initiatives for the month, including a Hockey Fights Cancer Skate on November 16th, where players will skate with children undergoing cancer treatment. On November 22nd, children battling cancer will be announced as part of the team's starting lineup during the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Players will wear special Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys, and in-game tributes will honor cancer fighters. Additionally, 7-year-old Sutton Bullard, who completed her cancer treatment, will ring the bell during the game. Leidos will present a $40,000 check to support cancer research, and fans attending the game will receive Hockey Fights Cancer rally towels. The 50/50 raffle proceeds will benefit cancer research projects, and an auction featuring autographed jerseys and pucks will support cancer-related causes. Youth hockey teams can also participate in the HFC Assist initiative to raise funds for cancer research. Last season, local schools and youth teams raised nearly $100,000 through this program. Goalies Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson participated in the October Saves Goalie Challenge to raise funds for charity. The Capitals will also support the #SkateForBreath charity hockey game on November 21st to raise funds for ALK-positive lung cancer research and patient support programs.
