Introducing Formula E's Gen4 Car: The Future of Electric Racing

Formula E has introduced its latest Gen4 car, set to make its debut in the 2026-27 season. The Gen4 boasts an impressive 600kW power output, equivalent to over 800hp, a significant upgrade from the previous Gen3 model. The new car will maintain all-wheel drive, offering enhanced performance on the track.

In race mode, the Gen4 will reach a peak power of 450kW, nearly matching Formula 2's 620hp. The addition of all-wheel drive will be available at all times, a feature that was previously limited to specific race scenarios. The car's aerodynamics have been optimized for both qualifying and race conditions, with a high-downforce setup for qualifying and a low-downforce configuration for the race to reduce drag and energy consumption.

Formula E touts the Gen4 as the most efficient and sustainable race car, with almost 100% motor efficiency and the ability to regenerate 40% of energy. The car's construction utilizes 100% recyclable materials, aligning with Formula E's commitment to sustainability. The inclusion of an active differential further enhances the car's road relevance for manufacturers and future vehicle innovation.

Despite recent departures from major manufacturers like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and McLaren, Formula E remains optimistic about the Gen4's potential. The championship's co-founder and chief championship officer, Alberto Longo, emphasizes the car's technical capabilities and its potential to deliver thrilling racing action. The FIA's Formula E technical manager, Vincent Gaillardot, highlights the Gen4's cutting-edge technology, making it the fastest and most powerful electric racing car to date.

The upcoming Formula E season will kick off with the Sao Paulo E-Prix on December 6, 2025. The Gen4 car promises to push drivers to new limits with its advanced features and performance, setting the stage for an exciting season of electric racing.
