Calandagan Tops Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings, Forever Young Slips to Third Place

The latest Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings have a new leader, with Forever Young, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic, not holding the top spot. The Japan-based dirt star remains rated at 127, tied for third place with other horses. Calandagan and Ombudsman, who finished first and second in the Champion Stakes, have taken the top positions in the rankings. Calandagan's recent victories have boosted his rating to 130, making him the new leader. Ombudsman, despite his defeat at Ascot, maintains a rating of 128, securing the second spot.

Calandagan's success in the Champion Stakes under the guidance of jockey Mickael Barzalona, trainer Francis Graffard, and owner Aga Khan Studs has put him in contention for the Japan Cup. Forever Young, along with Daryz, Field of Gold, and Sovereignty, is tied for third place in the rankings. Forever Young and Sovereignty are considered the top-rated dirt horses globally and are strong contenders for the North American Horse of the Year title.

The Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings Committee, in collaboration with the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, compiles and publishes these rankings to recognize the top-performing horses in the world. The rankings reflect the recent successes and performances of horses across different racing disciplines.
