Drive-By Truckers and Jason Isbell Reunite for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert: Celebrating The Definitive Decoration Day

Drive-By Truckers and former member Jason Isbell will reunite for the first time in over 18 years on CBS' The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on December 2. This special performance coincides with the release of The Definitive Decoration Day, a four-LP boxed set celebrating the band's 2003 album of the same name. Lead Trucker Patterson Hood expressed excitement about the reunion and considers Decoration Day to be their masterpiece.

Isbell, who departed from the band in 2007 to pursue a successful solo career, has occasionally joined his former bandmates on stage for impromptu performances. Their last collaboration was at Isbell's Shoalsfest in 2021. Decoration Day marked a shift in the band's songwriting, delving into more personal themes and showcasing the talents of Hood, Isbell, and core member Mike Cooley. The album received critical acclaim for its raw and introspective storytelling.

While Drive-By Truckers are currently not touring, Hood is on a solo tour with Craig Finn until November 22. Isbell, known for his relentless touring schedule, will kick off a new tour in 2026 starting in Durham, N.C. The upcoming appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert promises to be a rare and special treat for fans of both artists.
