Sophie and her mom, Ashley, have been listening to Taylor Swift's latest album during their trips to the clinic. Swift's music has played a significant role in helping Sophie cope with her treatments, with hospital staff playing her songs to create a sense of comfort and joy during her radiation sessions. The music has not only provided Sophie with solace but has also strengthened the bond between her and her mom, who now share dance parties and sing-alongs to Swift's songs.
Since her diagnosis in June, Sophie has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. A recent surgery to remove a tumor was only partially successful, leading to additional treatments at the Mayo Clinic. Despite the challenges she faces, Sophie has received overwhelming support from her family, school, and community. A drive-through parade was organized by her school to show solidarity and send her off to surgery, with friends and staff showing up in yellow, the color of childhood cancer awareness.
While no benefits are currently planned for Sophie, Señor Max's in the Watertown Mall is selling merchandise to support the Holida family. Keychains, bracelets, and bumper stickers are available for purchase, with all proceeds going to the family. Sophie hopes that Taylor Swift will send her a birthday message on her special day, as a gesture of support and encouragement.
