Speedway in Lights 5K: A Festive Run Supporting Children in Need

The Bristol Motor Speedway was transformed into a magical winter setting for the annual Speedway in Lights 5K run, marking the official kickoff of the Speedway Children's Charities holiday season. Over a thousand participants joined the event, running amidst stunning holiday lights to show their support for children in the region.
The event was praised by Claudia Byrd, the director of the Speedway Children's Charities Bristol chapter, who highlighted the importance of the occasion. Families, friends, and runners of all ages were treated to a newly updated course with numerous new displays. Notable participants included Katie Williams and Allie Salyer, recent winners of the 1A state championship in cross-country for Eastside High School.
Byrd stressed that all funds raised from the event remain within the local community, benefiting programs in northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia. She emphasized that the money raised goes directly to helping children who are in need.
The course of the 5K run meandered through the Bristol Dragway and concluded on the high banks of the speedway, providing a memorable experience for many participants. Morgan Leach from Greeneville, Tenn., expressed his enthusiasm for the race and mentioned his willingness to participate again. For many, the event was not just about the lights or the run; it was an opportunity to make a positive impact by giving back.
Each step taken during the event contributes to the ongoing mission of Speedway Children's Charities to support local children throughout the year. The Speedway in Lights 5K run not only brings the community together for a festive occasion but also serves as a meaningful way to support children in need.
