UP Fighting Maroons: Determined to Defend Title in UAAP Season 88 Final Four

The University of the Philippines basketball team, led by graduating seniors Gerry Abadiano, Harold Alarcon, Terrence Fortea, Reyland Torres, and Janjan Felicilda, secured a spot in the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Basketball Tournament Final Four after defeating Adamson University. The group, known as the ‘Maroon 5,’ is determined to win back-to-back championships before ending their collegiate careers. Abadiano and Torres played crucial roles in the victory, with Abadiano leading the team in points and Torres contributing key baskets to maintain the lead.

With their eyes set on the championship, the ‘Maroon 5’ are motivated to make the most of their final season in the UAAP. Torres expressed eagerness to repeat as champions and graduate as a three-time gold medalist. The team's current 9-3 record guarantees them at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four. Despite their recent winning streak, team captain Abadiano emphasized the importance of staying focused and continuing to improve.

As they prepare to face tough opponents like the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the De La Salle Green Archers in the remaining games of the elimination round, the Fighting Maroons are aware of the challenges ahead. Abadiano stressed the need to remain vigilant and address any obstacles that come their way. The team is determined to give their best effort in every game and approach the upcoming matches with determination and focus.
