Bon Jovi's Early Christmas Singing Gig: A Star Wars Holiday Tale

Bon Jovi, known for hits like “Runaway,” had his first paid singing job on the 'Christmas in the Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album.' Before his rise to fame, John Bongiovi worked as a gofer at a recording studio in New York. In 1980, he lent his voice to a 'Star Wars'-themed Christmas album, singing 'R2-D2, We Wish You a Merry Christmas' alongside a chorus of children. The producer sought a youthful voice and offered Bon Jovi $183 for his contribution.
The album, produced by RSO Records, features Star Wars-themed Christmas songs and stories narrated by Anthony Daniels as C-3PO. Despite the initial success of the album, RSO Records shut down before a second printing could be made. Released in November 1980, the album aimed to capitalize on the popularity of the Star Wars franchise. The cassette version of the album is now considered rare.
Bon Jovi shared the inspiration behind his song 'Christmas Isn’t Christmas,' which he wrote during a challenging time when his parents fell ill during the holiday season. The song reflects the importance of family and togetherness during Christmas, even when physical presence is not possible. The accompanying music video adds a cheerful touch to the message of the song, emphasizing the significance of being together during the holiday season.
