Ageless Athlete: The Inspiring Story of Clayton Mannausau

Clayton Mannausau, an 85-year-old resident of Moorhead, is a true testament to the saying that age is just a number. He is a regular at the Moorhead Sports Center, where he laces up his well-worn Bauer skates multiple times a week to hit the ice. Despite his age, Mannausau continues to participate in league hockey games, often skating alongside players who could be his grandchildren. Growing up in Indus, Minnesota, near the Canadian border, Mannausau developed a love for hockey at a young age, skating at the local rink that was heated only if you arrived early enough to start the stove.

Mannausau's dedication to the sport is evident in his participation in the USA 80+ team and his frequent travels to international competitions. He has played in tournaments in Spain, Russia, and most recently, Toronto. Despite his age, Mannausau's smooth skating skills and endurance on the ice never fail to impress those around him. He credits his active lifestyle, good genes, and consistent training routine for his ability to continue playing hockey at such a high level.

In addition to his passion for hockey, Mannausau is also an avid golfer, hitting the links daily during the summer months. He maintains a rigorous workout schedule in his home gym five days a week, further showcasing his commitment to staying active and healthy. While Mannausau has played hockey around the world, some of his most cherished moments on the ice are those spent playing with his three grandchildren. Despite their decreased involvement in the sport, Mannausau remains a regular presence at local rinks, refusing to slow down or let age limit his love for the game.
