Karen Read Files Lawsuit Alleging Cover-Up in Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe's Death

Karen Read, who was acquitted of murder charges, has filed a lawsuit claiming that others were responsible for the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe. She alleges that investigators failed to pursue leads in the case. Read was found not guilty of murder but guilty of drunken driving. She is now seeking justice for O'Keefe's death through a civil lawsuit filed in Bristol County Superior Court. The lawsuit names several individuals, including former trooper Michael Proctor, Sgt. Yuri Bukhenik, and others, as defendants.

Witnesses in the case have indicated that they plan to sue Read and blogger Aidan Kearney for defamation, accusing Read of creating a false narrative to avoid responsibility for her actions. Throughout her criminal trials, Read's defense team claimed that someone else was responsible for O'Keefe's death and that she was the victim of a law enforcement cover-up. The lawsuit now explicitly states that O'Keefe was killed in a home in Canton during a late-night house party after a night of heavy drinking.

Read alleges that the defendants moved O'Keefe's body outside to make it look like he was hit by a vehicle and that they conducted a Google search for "how long to die in the cold." The lawsuit also claims that injuries on O'Keefe's arm were caused by a German Shepherd and that a wound on the back of his head could not have been caused by falling backward onto the lawn. Read states that her life has been forever changed by the prosecution and the actions of those she is now suing, and that neither O'Keefe nor his family have received justice.

In the lawsuit, Read accuses investigator Proctor of intentionally disregarding evidence and having personal ties to the Albert family. The lawsuit quotes from Proctor's text messages, which were revealed during the mistrial in Read's case. Proctor was fired following these revelations. The lawsuit also alleges that Proctor communicated secretly with the Alberts through his personal phone with the help of his sister. NewsCenter 5 is reviewing the lawsuit and will provide updates on the case.
