Shine On You Crazy Diamond: Celebrating 50 Years of Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their iconic album "Wish You Were Here" with a special reissue on December 12. The highlight of this release is the first-ever continuous edition of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," presented as a 25-minute stereo mix, combining Parts I to V and Parts VI to IX in a single sequence.

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was a tribute to Syd Barrett, a founding member of Pink Floyd, and the emotional weight of the piece deepened when Barrett unexpectedly appeared during the final mixing sessions. The new stereo mix of the track was prepared by James Guthrie, a long-time collaborator of the band, with artwork by comedian and artist Noel Fielding, who credits Barrett as a creative influence.

The album "Wish You Were Here" explored themes of absence, alienation, and the music industry, following the success of "The Dark Side Of The Moon." The reissue, titled "Wish You Were Here 50," includes six previously unreleased recordings, alternate versions, and early instrumental foundations of key tracks from the album.

The reissue is available in multiple formats, including three LPs, two CDs, Blu-ray, and exclusive clear vinyl configurations. The Blu-ray edition features live recordings from Pink Floyd's 1975 concert in Los Angeles, restored and remastered by Steven Wilson, along with a Dolby Atmos mix of the album and other bonus material.

The vinyl package includes the original album, studio rarities, live recordings from Wembley 1974, and a replica Japanese 7-inch single. Additional printed material includes a hardcover book of unseen photographs, a comic-style tour program, and a reproduction of a Knebworth poster. The reissue offers fans a comprehensive look at the making of this classic album.
