Dave Burd AKA Lil Dicky: From Rapper to Animator - DreamWorks Animation Deal

Lil Dicky, also known as Dave Burd, is in talks to sell an original animated feature pitch to DreamWorks Animation. The project was acquired by the studio in a competitive situation, although plot details have not been revealed yet. Burd is a multi-talented artist, known for his work as a rapper, comedian, and actor, with his most recent project being the FX comedy series Dave, which he co-created, produced, and wrote for. The show received critical acclaim and featured guest appearances from Brad Pitt, Rachel McAdams, and Drake.
After the season three finale of Dave aired in May 2023, Burd announced his decision to step back from the show to explore other opportunities. He released his latest album, Penith (The Dave Soundtrack), in 2024, which serves as the official soundtrack for the TV series. His debut album, Professional Rapper, achieved commercial success and featured collaborations with artists like Snoop Dogg, Fetty Wap, and T-Pain. Additionally, Burd has been involved in music-led initiatives to raise awareness about climate change.
DreamWorks Animation's recent releases include Dog Man, The Bad Guys 2, and Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie. Universal Pictures also released a live-action remake of DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon. In a 2023 interview, Burd expressed his desire to work on projects that could be considered for best picture awards and to create groundbreaking comedy or drama content. He aims to establish his production company, Gr8 Films, as a symbol of artistic excellence.
Burd is currently represented by UTA and Hansen Jacobson.
