Jodie Sweetin's Journey to Sobriety: Overcoming Alcohol Addiction and Finding Strength

Jodie Sweetin's battle with alcohol addiction began during her teenage years, triggered by an incident at Candace Cameron Bure's wedding. The former "Full House" star revealed on a podcast that she had her first drink at the age of 14 at the wedding and ended up blacking out. Despite the embarrassing experience, Sweetin found something intriguing about the loss of inhibition that alcohol provided. As she grew older, she realized that her drinking and partying habits were different from her peers, leading her to seek out new social circles that matched her behavior.

Sweetin attributed her substance use to her struggles with ADHD and a desire to improve her cognitive function. Despite entering treatment for addiction in her 20s and experiencing relapses, she emphasized that her fame did not cause her addiction issues. The actress acknowledged that being in the public eye made it challenging to navigate her struggles with addiction openly. However, Sweetin eventually found sobriety after becoming a mother to her two daughters, Zoie and Beatrix.

Reflecting on her journey, Sweetin shared that it has been 16 years since she last consumed alcohol and 13 years since her last medication relapse following a car accident. Despite the ups and downs, she remains committed to her recovery and continues to advocate for mental health awareness and addiction support.
