Shirley Ballas' Scary Choking Incident Backstage at Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool Special

Shirley Ballas had a frightening experience when she choked on a fish bone just before the Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool special. The judge on the popular BBC One dance show struggled to breathe for about 20 minutes backstage at the Tower Ballroom. Her makeup artist, Jane Burstow, came to her rescue by performing the Heimlich manoeuvre to dislodge the bone. Shirley expressed her gratitude to Jane for saving her from what she described as a terrifying moment.
After the incident, Shirley returned to London and reassured her fans that she was feeling better, albeit a bit hoarse. She mentioned that she almost didn't make it to the judging desk that night. Shirley also shared her intention to learn the Heimlich manoeuvre to be prepared in case she needs to help someone in the future.
Despite the scare, Shirley remains committed to Strictly Come Dancing and believes the show will continue long after her time as a judge. She emphasized that no individual, including herself, is bigger than the show, as it belongs to the people. Shirley reflected on her journey on the show since 2017 and expressed confidence that Strictly Come Dancing will endure for years to come.
