Franklin High School Choir Wins Star Choir Competition and Performs at Rockefeller Center Christmas Broadcast

A student choir from Franklin High School in Somerset has won the annual Star Choir competition and will be performing at the Rockefeller Center Christmas broadcast. The GoldN’Blues choir will be singing “Joy to the World” during NBC’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” broadcast on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The winning choir was selected by Kelly Clarkson, NBC 4 New York, and Telemundo 47. The students were surprised with the news by Clarkson, NBC 4 New York News Anchor Natalie Pasquarella, and Telemundo 47 News Anchor Rosarina Breton.
The competition received over 100 entries from local choirs across the New York City area, including New York, New Jersey, Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Pike County, Pennsylvania. Franklin High School’s GoldN’Blues Choir was chosen as the winner for their outstanding performance and holiday spirit. Choir director Kiera Radvanski, a Franklin High School alumna, leads the group, which performs contemporary pop a cappella as the GoldN’Blues and traditional Renaissance Madrigal music as the Madrigals. The choir is known for their performances at local events and senior living facilities.
The students of Franklin High School will have the opportunity to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in person for the first time and perform under this iconic tree in New York City for a national audience. The school will receive $5,000 from NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47, as well as an additional $5,000 from sponsor Bulova. Each student will also receive a watch from Bulova. The choir’s director expressed her excitement for the students to have this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
