The Siakam EdTech Engine: Empowering Youth Upskilling in AI for the Future

The Siakam EdTech Engine, led by NBA All-Star Pascal Siakam, is set to launch its second cohort in early 2026. The program, established in partnership with PS43 and DMZ, aims to support early-stage EdTech startups in addressing educational gaps. The inaugural cohort has already made significant strides, with three pilot projects currently underway in schools.

During an exclusive event at DMZ, Pascal Siakam and participants discussed the impact of the program. Founders from the first cohort shared how the EdTech Engine helped bring their business ideas to life in classrooms and school boards. Cyber Legends, English Islands, and Bishop Macdonell Catholic School showcased early results from their pilot projects, demonstrating the positive changes in student learning.

The first cohort concluded with a Demo Day where startups presented their solutions to a panel of judges. A total of $50,000 CAD in grant funding was awarded, enabling Cyber Legends and English Islands to secure pilot project opportunities. Cyber Legends is working with Indiana Math and Science Academy and the Toronto Catholic District School Board, while English Islands is piloting its AI-powered reading tutor at Indiana Math and Science Academy.

Building on the success of the pilot projects, the second cohort will expand to support startups focusing on youth upskilling in AI. This expansion addresses the growing need for practical skills in a changing job market, especially for students outside STEM programs. The program aims to equip students with the necessary skills for future careers through AI-driven technologies.

The Siakam EdTech Engine has proven to be a valuable platform for founders, educators, and community partners to collaborate on innovative solutions for education. The program's success in its first year has paved the way for a second cohort that aims to empower young people with the skills and opportunities needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

DMZ and PS43 are inviting new partners to join the upcoming cohort of the Siakam EdTech Engine. Organizations interested in advancing youth upskilling, AI education, and K-12 classroom innovation in North America can reach out to Alex Husarewych, Strategic Partnerships Manager at DMZ, for more information.
