Experience the Vibrant Culture of Garo Hills at Me’gong Festival 2025

The Me’gong Festival 2025 is set to take place in Tura on December 5 and 6, featuring renowned international artists like Richard Marx and Yellow Claw, as well as Bollywood singers Kanika Kapoor and Neeti Mohan. This festival has become a significant cultural event in Meghalaya, attracting over 3 lakh visitors during the 2024 edition, making it one of the most attended events in the Northeast. Me’gong Festival has evolved into a platform showcasing the arts, music, food, and craftsmanship of the Garo Hills region.
The state government sees the festival as a key driver of Meghalaya’s cultural economy, in line with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s vision to leverage festivals for boosting tourism, supporting local businesses, and fostering community-led development. The event creates opportunities for various stakeholders such as hospitality providers, transport operators, artisans, food vendors, and young entrepreneurs in the region.
This year’s festival lineup features a mix of international acts and local bands like Rough Road, Hoi Hoi Makbil, Haystack Ladies, G-Hills Finest, Crack Gang, and Ahaia, offering visitors a diverse musical experience that blends global influences with local traditions. Attendees can also enjoy traditional Garo cuisine, weaving workshops, bamboo artistry, beaded jewelry, and craft exhibitions showcasing the region’s rich heritage and skills.
Me’gong Festival continues its commitment to sustainability by implementing practices like zero-plastic zones and community-managed waste systems. The Garo Hills region, once overlooked, has gained recognition as a cultural tourism destination and outdoor adventure hub, with events like Me’gong contributing to its growing popularity. In 2024, the festival featured the iconic Swedish rock band EUROPE, marking their first performance in the Northeast.
