Exploring the Future of Immersive Storytelling: IFFR Introduces Lightroom for 2026 Festival

The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has announced the addition of a new immersive projects program for its 2026 co-production market and works-in-progress section. The festival unveiled a selection of 21 feature projects for CineMart and 10 projects for its Darkroom works-in-progress platform. Additionally, six CineMart titles have been selected for the inaugural CineMart x HBF lineup, focusing on projects previously supported by IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund (HBF).

For the first time, immersive media projects will be presented under the banner Lightroom, a new industry platform for immersive storytelling. This platform aims to bring together XR, VR, and interactive projects, offering a clearer pathway for development, visibility, and exchange. The full selection of Lightroom projects will be revealed in December, along with details of a dedicated symposium on the future of immersive storytelling.

These developments reflect the evolution of IFFR Pro, emphasizing the festival's commitment to alumni and innovative audiovisual storytelling. The 2026 CineMart selection includes a variety of projects, such as The Dispute, Worse Together, Beirut Baby, Birdwoman, and When the Goats Came, showcasing a mix of breakthrough talent and established filmmakers exploring diverse themes and genres.

The 55th edition of IFFR is scheduled to take place from January 29 to February 8, offering a platform for discovery and collaboration in the world of cinema. Check out the full list of CineMart and Darkroom projects unveiled by IFFR to learn more about the exciting lineup for the upcoming festival.
