Ozzy & Me: A Tale of Friendship, Rock 'n' Roll, and Life Lessons

Stephen Rea shares his incredible 40-year friendship with the Osbourne family in his new book, "Ozzy & Me: Life Lessons, Wild Stories and Unexpected Epiphanies from Forty Years of Friendship with the Prince of Darkness." The book recounts how a chance encounter at Rock In Rio in 1985 led to a lifelong bond between a teenage boy from Belfast and the legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his family.
As a young teenager in war-torn Belfast, Stephen Rea stumbled upon news of a major rock festival in Rio de Janeiro featuring Ozzy Osbourne among other international acts. Intrigued by the idea of seeing his idol perform, Rea's father encouraged him to look into the possibility of attending the festival in Brazil. Despite their modest means, Rea's parents valued experiences over possessions and were open to the idea of traveling to Rio.
With the help of Ozzy Osbourne's secretary, Lynn, Rea's dream of attending Rock In Rio started to take shape. Lynn provided valuable information about the festival and assured Rea's family that they would be able to attend the concert for free if they made it to Rio. The prospect of traveling to South America to see Ozzy Osbourne perform seemed surreal to Rea, but he was determined to make it happen.
Despite facing challenges with his strict British boarding school, Rea managed to secure permission to take two weeks off to attend the festival. His headmaster reluctantly agreed, acknowledging the unique educational value of the trip to Brazil. With the school's approval in hand, Rea's journey to Rock In Rio was officially set in motion.
The book "Ozzy & Me" offers a glimpse into the remarkable friendship that blossomed between Stephen Rea and the Osbourne family over the course of four decades.
