Thanksgiving Box Office Preview: Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good Lead the Charge

This year's Thanksgiving box office is set to be dominated by highly anticipated sequels like Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good. Zootopia 2 is projected to bring in a massive $140 million over the five-day holiday period, with a three-day weekend estimate of $88-90 million. While it may not reach the heights of Moana 2's opening last year, it is still expected to outperform the original film's debut.
The overall box office for 2025 has been softer compared to previous years, with even Wicked: For Good falling short of its predecessor's opening numbers. Despite this, exhibitors are hopeful for a boost in ticket sales during the Thanksgiving weekend, as the industry has been in need of successful releases since September.
New releases like Now You See Me: Now You Don't and Predator: Badlands are not expected to have a significant impact on the box office, with modest projections for their three-day weekend earnings. However, A24's rom-com Eternity is exceeding expectations and could secure a fifth-place finish with around $5.4 million, despite a limited number of screens.
Awards contender Hamnet from Focus Features is also performing well in limited release, with a projected five-day holiday earnings of approximately $1.4 million and a strong per-screen average. As the holiday weekend approaches, the box office predictions are eagerly awaited by movie enthusiasts.
