The trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former Southside Compton Crips member accused of involvement in Tupac Shakur's 1996 murder, has been postponed to allow his defense team more time to review extensive evidence. The court granted a six-month delay following a request from Davis' attorney, Robert Draskovich, citing the need for a thorough examination of the voluminous discovery materials. The trial, originally scheduled for February 2026, has been rescheduled to August 10, 2026.
Davis, 60, has been in custody since his arrest in September 2023, facing allegations of orchestrating a drive-by shooting that resulted in Shakur's fatal injury near the Las Vegas Strip. Prosecutors claim the attack was motivated by a casino altercation between Tupac and Davis' nephew, Orlando Anderson. Davis recently changed his legal representation, bringing in Draskovich and Michael Pandullo to lead his defense.
The case has been complicated by Davis' conflicting public statements over the years regarding his involvement in the shooting. While he has previously claimed to have been present during the incident, he now argues that he exaggerated his role for financial gain. Authorities believe Davis gave the order for the shooting from a white Cadillac that approached Shakur's BMW before the gunfire erupted. With Anderson, the suspected shooter, deceased, Davis remains one of the few individuals with direct knowledge of the events surrounding Shakur's murder.
The defense team will use the additional time to review nearly three decades' worth of interviews, forensic reports, and recorded statements related to the case. The trial marks a significant step in resolving one of Hip-Hop's most enduring unsolved mysteries, which has captivated public interest and speculation since Shakur's tragic death in 1996.
