Meet Poor Life Choices: The Rising Star of The Hook Songwriting Showcase

The songwriter known as Poor Life Choices, whose real name is Paul Orehovec, has been a standout performer at The Hook songwriting showcase. His talent lies in creating colorful characters and placing them in captivating and sometimes risky situations through his music.

During a recent performance at The Hook pilot taping in Nashville, Orehovec wowed the audience with his unreleased song "Litta Bitta Luck." The song, initially about betting on horses, took a surprising turn that kept the audience engaged and on the edge of their seats.

Originally from Ohio, Orehovec spent his formative years in Miami, where he was exposed to the world of horse tracks and colorful characters. After a stint as a live performer and TV producer in Los Angeles, he made the decision to focus on music and songwriting, relocating to Nashville and adopting the moniker "Poor Life Choices."

Since then, Poor Life Choices has released several singles, including "Somebody Out There" and "Drag Queen at the Gun Range," with an upcoming album titled June Bug in July slated for release in the spring of 2026. The Hook, hosted by Caitlin Cannon and Trigger of Saving Country Music, offers a platform for aspiring songwriters to showcase their talent and connect with a wider audience.

Stay tuned for more live tapings of The Hook, with the next installment scheduled for March 9th at Eastside Bowl in Nashville. Subscribe to The Hook on YouTube and follow them on social media for updates on upcoming events and performances.
