Firefighter Faces Charges for Allegedly Attacking Teens in Ding-Dong-Ditch Prank Gone Wrong

A firefighter from South Florida is facing charges for allegedly chasing and hitting four teenagers with a baseball bat after they played a ding-dong-ditch prank at his home. The firefighter, Alex Michael Lutz, works for Highland Beach Fire Rescue and surrendered to authorities in Lighthouse Point. The incident took place in Lighthouse Point on Nov. 23, where Lutz reportedly chased the teens on a golf cart and struck them with the bat while they pleaded for him to stop.
The teenagers were ringing Lutz's doorbell and running away when he confronted them with the baseball bat. Surveillance video captured the attack, showing Lutz hitting the golf cart and the teens while they screamed in fear. The incident left the teens traumatized, but they were not charged. Ding-dong ditching is a common prank where individuals ring a doorbell and run away before the door is answered.
Following the incident, Lutz was placed on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation by the Town of Highland Beach. The Fire Chief expressed surprise at the situation and stated that the behavior described does not align with the department's values. Lutz appeared in court and was ordered to be held on a $35,000 bond, which he later posted to be released from jail.
In conclusion, the firefighter's actions have led to legal consequences, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of engaging in aggressive behavior in response to pranks.
