UCLA Football Awards: Recognizing the Standout Bruins of the Season

As we wrap up the season, it's time to recognize the standout Bruins who made a mark during a challenging year. We are proud to present four awards to honor the players who truly defined UCLA's season.
First up is the Most Under-the-Radar award, which goes to senior Anthony Frias II. Despite limited opportunities, Frias made a significant impact, especially in the game against Maryland where his crucial plays led to a victory. With 24 carries for 183 yards and one touchdown, Frias showcased his talent both on the ground and in the passing game.
Moving on to the Defensive Player of the Year award, Key Lawrence stood out as the heart of the Bruins' secondary. His relentless effort on every snap, evident in his impressive stat line of 70 tackles, one pass defended, two forced fumbles, and one interception, solidified his place as a key player in the defense.
In the Offensive Player of the Year category, Kwazi Gilmer's performance, particularly in the USC game where he caught 10 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown, highlighted his contribution to the team. Despite a slower second half of the season, Gilmer remained the Bruins' top receiver with 50 catches, 535 yards, and four touchdowns.
Lastly, the MVP award goes to Nico Iamaleava, who played a crucial role in preventing a winless season for the Bruins. Despite facing challenges, Iamaleava's impressive stats of 1,928 passing yards, 13 touchdown passes, and 505 rushing yards with four touchdowns showcased his potential for a standout season if given the opportunity.
In conclusion, these players have truly exemplified the spirit and talent of UCLA's football team this season, and their contributions have not gone unnoticed. Congratulations to all the award recipients for their outstanding performances on the field.
