Rays Sign Outfielder Cedric Mullins to One-Year Deal with Mutual Option

The Tampa Bay Rays have officially signed outfielder Cedric Mullins to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2027. To make room for Mullins on the roster, the Rays designated right-hander Yoniel Curet for assignment. Mullins, a 31-year-old center fielder who bats left-handed, had a mixed season in 2021, hitting .216 with 17 home runs and 59 RBIs in 133 games split between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Mets. The Mets acquired Mullins at the trade deadline in exchange for three minor league right-handers. Despite struggling with the Mets, Mullins has been a consistent performer throughout his eight-year career, with a .247 average, 103 home runs, and 337 RBIs. He was an All-Star in 2021 and had a standout season with career highs in batting average, home runs, and stolen bases. In 2023, he recorded a career-high 74 RBIs.
