UK & Ireland Box Office Report: November 2025 Highlights and Year-to-Date Trends

November saw a 33% decrease in box office revenue in the UK & Ireland compared to the previous year, with total earnings for the month reaching £85m. Despite this decline, the year-to-date figures are slightly ahead of 2024, standing at £965m, which is a 2% increase from the previous year. The standout performer in November was Universal's sequel Wicked: For Good, which grossed £34.4m and is currently tracking 6% ahead of its predecessor.
Wicked: For Good had a strong opening weekend, raking in £17.8m, making it the biggest opening since Barbie in 2023. The film now ranks as the fifth-highest-grossing title of the year, trailing behind Jurassic World Rebirth, Lilo & Stitch, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, and A Minecraft Movie. To ensure that 2025 finishes ahead of 2024, cinemas will need a strong showing from upcoming releases like Disney's Avatar: Fire And Ash, Universal's Five Nights At Freddy's 2, and award contenders like Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value.
In November, Disney's Zootropolis 2 secured the second spot in box office earnings with £7.5m, a significant contrast to the previous year when Paddington In Peru and Gladiator 2 claimed the top spots. Zootropolis 2 opened to £5.9m, surpassing the start of its predecessor in 2016. The film will need to exceed the £24m earnings of the original to help boost the overall box office performance for the year.
The top titles in November were evenly distributed among various distributors, with two each for Universal, Disney, Paramount, and Sony, and one each for Lionsgate and Studiocanal. Notable mentions include Now You See Me: Now You Don't from Lionsgate and Nuremberg from Studiocanal. Only two October releases managed to make it to the top 10 in November, including Paramount's Regretting You and Universal's Bugonia.
Among the top 10 titles in November, Nicholas Hytner's The Choral was the only UK production, earning £3.9m for Sony. Bridget Jones remains the sole UK title in the year-to-date top 10, highlighting the need for more local content to boost box office performance. Overall, the industry is hopeful for a strong finish to the year with upcoming releases and potential award contenders.
