The Lost Chapter: Yuki's Revenge - Quentin Tarantino's Epic Collaboration with Fortnite

Quentin Tarantino and Epic Games collaborated on a new installment of Fortnite called The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge, inspired by a sequence from Kill Bill. Tarantino was actively involved in the creative process, providing notes and even acting out scenes to ensure the project was done right. The collaboration brought Tarantino back together with Uma Thurman, who stars as The Bride in the game, seeking revenge against Yuki, the twin sister of Gogo Yubari.
The project was unveiled at a special Fortnite Now Playing event at Tarantino's Vista Theater in Los Angeles. The team behind the collaboration, including Epic Games' Kim Libreri, Pat Tubach, and Third Floor's Josh Wassung, discussed how the project came together. The process began with Tarantino providing a script for the collaboration, which led to the creation of the California-themed season in Fortnite and the development of the lost chapter.
The production of Yuki's Revenge was remarkably fast, taking only five to five and a half months to complete. This speed was attributed to the close collaboration between the teams at Epic Games, Third Floor, and Unreal Engine. The project's authenticity was a top priority, with motion capture, voiceover, and facial capture techniques used to ensure the actors' performances were accurately portrayed in the game.
One of the most challenging scenes to nail was the parking lot face-off between Yuki and The Bride, as it required subtle dialogue and tension to be effectively conveyed. Quentin Tarantino was heavily involved in the creative process, providing storyboards and feedback on the scenes. His energy and enthusiasm for the project inspired the team to deliver a visually stunning and authentic experience that honored his original work in Kill Bill. The collaboration between Tarantino, Epic Games, and Third Floor resulted in a unique and exciting addition to the Fortnite universe.
