Florida State Seminoles Lose Commitment of Four-Star Cornerback Bryce Williams After Coaching Change

The Florida State Seminoles recently made the decision to part ways with defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. after his three-year tenure in Tallahassee. Following the announcement, former and current players, as well as recruits, expressed their disappointment with the coaching change.
One of the immediate consequences of Surtain Sr.'s dismissal was four-star cornerback Bryce Williams decommitting from Florida State and reopening his recruitment. Williams had been committed to the Seminoles since April 1, but the coaching change played a significant role in his decision.
During his junior season at Western High School, Williams showcased his skills with 22 tackles, 12 pass deflections, and an interception in nine games. He has since received offers from various programs, including Michigan, Georgia, Penn State, and Florida, among others.
As a 6-foot-2, 175-pound defensive back, Williams is highly regarded in the 2027 class, ranking as the No. 225 overall prospect, the No. 23 cornerback, and the No. 21 recruit in Florida according to 247Sports composite ratings. With Williams' departure, Florida State now has four verbal commitments in its 2027 class, which currently ranks No. 9 in the country.
In light of these developments, the Seminoles will need to regroup and potentially re-engage with Williams in his recruitment process to secure his commitment once again. The impact of coaching changes on recruiting decisions underscores the importance of stability and relationships in college football programs.
