Little Town Christmas: A Heartwarming Community Celebration in Chemainus

Chemainus's cherished holiday celebration, Little Town Christmas, returned to the Royal Canadian Legion Hall on December 6, attracting children and families for a day of festive fun. The event offered a variety of activities, including games, arts and crafts, prize fishing, and more, keeping the young attendees entertained and energized with cookies, hot dogs, and s'mores.

Volunteers played a crucial role in bringing the event to life, with community members staffing stations, serving food, and organizing games under the coordination of the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society (CVCAS). The Rotary Club of Chemainus honored the memory of longtime Rotarian Mike Beggs by unveiling a special tent in his name at the s'mores station, embodying the spirit of volunteerism that permeated the event.

The highlight of the day was the arrival of Santa and Buddy the Elf, sparking excitement among the attendees. Photos with Santa were a popular activity, with volunteers capturing countless holiday memories for families. The festive atmosphere was palpable, with both children and volunteers fully immersed in the joyous chaos of the event.

Little Town Christmas is a collaborative effort between CVCAS, the Chemainus Legion, and the Rotary Club of Chemainus, with support from local businesses. Board chair Bev Knight emphasized the importance of community and the arts in bringing people together, with live Christmas music provided by Sweet Harmony, adding to the festive ambiance.

With children leading the way and volunteers driving the activities, Little Town Christmas exemplified the strong sense of community in Chemainus, where coming together to celebrate is truly the main event. The event showcased the spirit of unity and joy that defines the holiday season, creating lasting memories for all who attended.
