The Odyssey: A Cinematic Journey Unfolds in Imax 70mm

Prepare for an epic cinematic experience as Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, "The Odyssey," embarks on its theatrical journey this weekend. Audiences will have the opportunity to witness a nearly six-minute prologue of the film on December 12, preceding Imax 70mm screenings of "Sinners" and "One Battle After Another," which are making a comeback on the big screen. Following this, a condensed yet full-length version of the "The Odyssey" trailer will be showcased ahead of "Avatar: Fire and Ash" screenings starting on December 19.
The decision to debut the extended trailer on Imax 70mm screens is not only a nod to Nolan's preference for this format but also because "The Odyssey" is the first movie entirely shot with Imax cameras. Nolan's previous blockbuster, "Oppenheimer," saw significant success in Imax, with the premium format contributing a substantial 20% of the total box office earnings. Fans went to great lengths, even crossing state borders, to experience "Oppenheimer" in 70mm Imax, resulting in sold-out screenings in those expansive auditoriums for weeks.
While this isn't the initial glimpse of "The Odyssey," a one-minute teaser was revealed during the summer ahead of screenings of "Jurassic World Rebirth" and "Superman," building anticipation a year before the film's scheduled release on July 17, 2026. An adaptation of Homer's Greek epic, "The Odyssey" features Matt Damon in the lead role of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he embarks on a treacherous journey back home after the Trojan War. Tom Holland portrays his son Telemachus, with Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal rounding out the talented ensemble cast.
Given Nolan's esteemed reputation in Hollywood, Universal opted to release tickets for select Imax 70mm screens a year in advance of the film's premiere. For those who missed out on securing a seat early on, regular tickets will become available closer to the film's official release date. Get ready to immerse yourself in the grandeur of "The Odyssey" as it promises to be a cinematic spectacle like no other.
