Update on Animal Cruelty Investigation: Charges Filed Against Dog Owner in West Bridgewater

The West Bridgewater Police Department has provided an update on an animal welfare investigation that led to charges against the dog's owner. Devin Preeper, a 27-year-old from Taunton, is facing a felony charge of Animal Cruelty and is set to be arraigned on December 23rd in Brockton District Court. The investigation began when Officer Alexandra Maloney observed a vehicle running a red light and noticed a severely underweight dog, a 9-month-old puppy named Sprout, in the vehicle. The dog was taken to Westbridge Veterinary Referral Hospital for medical care, and further investigation revealed that Preeper was the owner of the malnourished dog. Sprout is now receiving care at the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts (APCSM), where her condition is slowly improving. The APCSM is raising funds to support Sprout's recovery.
Following the initial traffic stop, the dog was immediately taken for veterinary care, and a thorough investigation was conducted by the West Bridgewater Police Department. This investigation included documenting the dog's condition, gathering veterinary reports, and conducting follow-up interviews. Based on the findings, Preeper was charged with Animal Cruelty, and a criminal complaint was issued in Brockton District Court. The case is still under investigation, and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The West Bridgewater Police Department is committed to ensuring the welfare of animals in the community and taking action against cases of animal cruelty. The charges against Preeper highlight the importance of responsible pet ownership and the consequences of neglecting the well-being of animals. The ongoing support and care provided to Sprout by the APCSM demonstrate the dedication to helping animals in need and promoting their recovery.
