Twins Make Moves in Rule 5 Draft: Acquire Susac, Trade for Caraballo

The Twins have participated in the Rule 5 draft for the second year in a row, selecting catcher Daniel Susac from the A’s AAA roster and promptly trading him to the Giants. Susac, a former first-round pick by the A’s, had a strong season in AAA-Las Vegas in 2025, hitting .275 with 18 home runs in 97 games. The Twins acquired 17-year-old catching prospect Miguel Caraballo in exchange for Susac, who had a solid performance in the Dominican Summer League.
Minnesota did not lose any prospects in the Major League portion of the draft but saw relievers Aaron Sozak and John Stankiewicz depart in the minor league (AAA) portion. The team added reliever Sam Ryan and outfielder Garrett Spain to their roster in the draft. Prior to the draft, the Twins released outfielder Carson McCusker to make room for Susac, but the spot is now vacant once again.
McCusker, who played in 16 games for the Twins in 2025, struggled to translate his AAA success to the Major League level, posting a .372 OPS with five singles in 30 plate appearances. Despite his impressive power numbers in AAA, McCusker failed to make a significant impact with the big club.
