Musical Memoirs: A Journey Through Duets, Icons, and Memories

Have you ever watched the movie Grace of My Heart and felt inspired to create an album of duets? The idea for Duets Special came about after a conversation with Rufus Wainwright's husband, where I suggested doing an album with Rufus. The album features collaborations with various artists, including a cover of Morrissey's The First of the Gang to Die. My relationship with Morrissey goes way back, and we share a common interest in vegetarianism. The Pretenders' debut album, which turns 45 this year, had some songs written before I met the band members. The iconic song 2000 Miles was written in memory of Jimmy Honeyman-Scott. I made a cameo appearance on the popular TV show Friends, which unexpectedly brought me a lot of attention. I have always found it awkward to be approached for autographs or selfies, as I value my privacy. During the turbulent times of the Ohio National Guard opening fire on students at Kent State University, I was there and have vivid memories of that period. I have a deep admiration for Van Gogh's work, but find it frustrating when people view art through their phones at exhibitions. My love for the UK started at a young age, and I decided to stay there after visiting. When I visit the US, I don't miss it much, as I prefer the public transport system in London. I have fond memories of the punk era and the people I met during that time, including some well-known figures like Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten. Despite the chaos that could have ensued, I have kept in touch with some of the women from the early punk scene, like Viv Albertine and Patti Palladin. Lastly, I remember the girl who tried to take my gloves at an Oasis gig in 1994, and I appreciate the kind words about our interaction.
