Midge Purce has signed a one-year contract to continue playing for Gotham FC in the upcoming season. The forward played a key role in helping Gotham FC secure a league championship victory against the Washington Spirit. Purce, who has been with Gotham for the past five seasons, was initially drafted by the Boston Breakers in 2017. In the previous season, she appeared in 23 matches for Gotham, contributing one goal and one assist.
After missing the entire 2024 NWSL season due to a torn ACL, Purce made a successful comeback with Gotham FC on a one-year deal. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, she hinted at her return to the team for another season. Purce expressed her satisfaction with the offseason following their championship win, emphasizing the importance of rest and recovery before diving into offseason training.
Throughout her time with Gotham FC, including playoff appearances, Purce has scored 16 goals and provided eight assists. Her standout performance in the 2023 NWSL Championship match earned her the MVP title as Gotham clinched their first league title. Purce's success extends beyond the pitch, as she has made appearances in Broadway's "Chicago" and on ESPN's "ManningCast" during a Giants-Patriots game shortly after Gotham's championship win.
In addition to her club achievements, Purce was part of the U.S. Women's National Team that won the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship. Her professional career also includes stints with the Portland Thorns, where she was selected in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft. With her talent and versatility, Purce has solidified her status as a star player in the NWSL and continues to make an impact both on and off the field.
