Promoting Collaboration in Irish Media: Coimisiún na Meán's Shared Island Fund

Ireland's government-backed media agency, Coimisiún na Meán, has introduced a €14m Shared Island Fund to promote collaboration in film, TV, radio, and journalism. The fund aims to support projects that foster a shared future, cultural exchange, and celebrate the diverse heritage of the island. Film producers can access funding through the Sound & Vision scheme, with a focus on cross-border or cross-community elements to encourage collaboration among producers, creatives, and broadcasters. The funding is available to producers across the entire island of Ireland, with rounds running for three years starting in 2026.

In addition to the Sound & Vision funding, the Shared Island Stories & Experiences initiative will launch in 2026, inspired by the success of the Irish-language development scheme Cine4. This initiative aims to develop original feature films in the Irish language on an all-island basis and is open to projects without a broadcaster attached. The Shared Island Fund, funded by the Department of the Taoiseach under the Irish government's Shared Island initiative, seeks to leverage the potential of the Good Friday peace agreement. More details about the specific funds will be revealed in the coming year.
