MLS Offseason 2025: Major Moves and Exciting Transfers Shake Up the League

The 2025 MLS offseason is off to a quick start with LA Galaxy, D.C. United, and San Diego FC making significant moves. The introduction of Cash for Player options has added excitement to the offseason, allowing traditional soccer transfers in MLS. While some teams are utilizing the MLS SuperDraft and General Allocation Money, others are opting for Cash-for-Player deals. Several MLS stars are rumored to be on the move, impacting teams like Philadelphia Union, LA Galaxy, Red Bull New York, and D.C. United.
Philadelphia Union, after winning their second Supporters' Shield, are looking to sell some key players. Leading goalscorer Tai Baribo might be heading to D.C. United, filling the gap left by Christian Benteke's departure. D.C. United is in advanced talks to sign Baribo for $4 million in a Cash for Player Transfer. The Union will need to find a replacement for Baribo but can rely on players like Bruno Damiani and Ezekiel Alladoh.
LA Galaxy, the 2024 MLS Cup winners, had a disappointing 2025 season without Riqui Puig. They are eyeing former MLS Defender of the Year Jakob Glesnes to strengthen their defense. The potential deal includes over $1 million in General Allocation Money with performance-based add-ons. Glesnes would be a valuable addition to the Galaxy's lineup.
San Diego FC, despite falling short in their expansion season, are making moves for their second season. They are close to signing DP winger Lewis Morgan from the Red Bulls. The deal involves $400,000 in GAM for this year and 2027, a MLS SuperDraft pick, and the Red Bulls retaining part of Morgan's contract. Morgan, a Scotland international, could bring his goal-scoring prowess to San Diego.
In addition to these major moves, other MLS teams are also active in the offseason. Chicago Fire sold midfielder Brian Gutiérrez to Chivas de Guadalajara, while CF Montréal acquired defender Brayan Vera and Nashville SC signed center back Maxwell Woledzi. Inter Miami CF is looking to sign Argentine right back Facundo Mora from Racing Club.
The 2025 MLS offseason promises to be eventful with teams making significant roster changes and acquisitions. Fans can expect more player movements and deals as the offseason progresses, setting the stage for an exciting 2026 season in Major League Soccer.
