Venezuelan Opposition Leader María Corina Machado Supports President Trump's Approach to Venezuela
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado expressed her full support for President Trump's approach to the situation in Venezuela. She praised the administration's efforts to prioritize the country's national security and acknowledged the increased pressure campaign against President Nicolás Maduro's regime. Machado recently made a daring escape from Venezuela to receive her Nobel Peace Prize in Norway, marking her first public appearance in almost a year.
The U.S. has intensified its actions against the Maduro regime, including deploying military assets in the region, imposing sanctions on Venezuelan individuals and vessels, and seizing an oil rig. Machado emphasized that these measures are aimed at saving lives and ending the regime's oppressive rule, despite the potential impact on the Venezuelan people.
She called for a coordinated international effort, involving the U.S., Caribbean, Latin American, and European countries, to further block the regime's illegal activities and increase the cost of remaining in power. Machado highlighted the weakened state of Maduro's regime and the unity of the Venezuelan people as signs of progress towards a democratic transition.
While Machado welcomed additional pressure on Maduro to step down, she did not advocate for U.S. military intervention in Venezuela. Instead, she emphasized the need for support from key allies, including the United States, to strengthen democratic institutions and restore order in the country after Maduro's departure. Machado expressed hope that the return of Venezuelan migrants from around the world would follow Maduro's exit.
