Yo La Tengo's Hanukkah Residency at Bowery Ballroom: A Night of Music, Comedy, and Special Guests

Yo La Tengo is currently in the midst of their annual Hanukkah residency at New York's Bowery Ballroom, with the fourth show taking place last night. The indie trio has been joined by various guest stars throughout the holiday celebration, including Bonnie "Prince" Billy and comedian Wyatt Cenac. The evening kicked off with a set from Bonnie "Prince" Billy, featuring a mix of his own songs and covers, followed by a stand-up set from Wyatt Cenac.
The main set from Yo La Tengo featured 15 tracks from their extensive discography, with a focus on their own original material. The band delivered tight performances of fan favorites like "Green Arrow," "From a Motel 6," and "Here to Fall," as well as a rare rendition of "Two Trains." The set concluded with "Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind," leaving the audience wanting more.
For the encore, Yo La Tengo welcomed back Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Matt Berninger to the stage for a series of covers, including P!NK's "TRUSTFALL" and The National's "Bloodbuzz Ohio." Lenny Kaye also made a surprise appearance, adding his vocals and guitar to the mix. The night ended with a full-company performance of Patti Smith's "Free Money," capping off another memorable evening.
Yo La Tengo's Hanukkah residency at the Bowery Ballroom will continue through Dec. 21, with more surprises and special guests in store. For more information on the band and upcoming shows, visit their official website at yolatengo.com.
