Andrew Terraciano, known for his role as Sean on Blue Bloods, has been recast in the spinoff Boston Blue. Despite the change, there is still a possibility for Terraciano to make a return to the show in the future. The executive producer of Boston Blue, Brandon Margolis, expressed interest in involving Terraciano in a role that pays homage to his Blue Bloods origins, and Donnie Wahlberg, who plays his onscreen father, is open to the idea.

Terraciano, who appeared in nearly 300 episodes of Blue Bloods, shared the screen with his brother Tony Terraciano, who played Jack Reagan. The spinoff Boston Blue premiered with Mika Amonsen taking on the role of Sean. Amonsen felt pressure to respect Terraciano's portrayal of the character but also wanted to bring his own interpretation to the role. He binge-watched episodes of Blue Bloods to understand Sean's character development and relationship with his father, Danny.

Amonsen aimed to honor Terraciano's portrayal of Sean while adding his own touch to the character. The showrunners provided him with the freedom to explore the new dynamic with Donnie's character. Amonsen noticed similarities between himself and Terraciano in terms of energy and upbeat nature, which he incorporated into his performance. He emphasized that they are exploring a new relationship between Sean and his father that was not previously explored in the original series.

Terraciano expressed gratitude for his time on Blue Bloods and the opportunity to portray Sean. He acknowledged that while he had the joy of playing the character, it is now someone else's turn to bring their own interpretation to the role.
