Bowen Yang Announces Departure from Saturday Night Live: A Look Back at His Time on the Show

Bowen Yang, known for his work on Saturday Night Live (SNL), is set to leave the show mid-season after the upcoming episode hosted by Ariana Grande. Yang started as a writer on SNL in 2018, eventually becoming a featured player and then a main cast member. He received five Emmy nominations during his time on the show.
In an Instagram post, Yang expressed his love for SNL and the people he worked with. He mentioned the value of showing up and making it worthwhile. Yang, who is 35 years old, appeared in promos for the upcoming show with Grande and Cher.
Yang's departure follows a wave of cast members leaving last summer before the start of Season 51. Despite considering leaving earlier, Yang received encouragement from SNL creator Lorne Michaels to stay. He credited Michaels with changing his life and expressed his love for the show and its people.
Apart from SNL, Yang co-hosts a pop culture podcast and has appeared in various projects, including Wicked, The Wedding Banquet, and Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens. He and his co-host Matt Rogers hosted the Las Culturista Culture Awards on Bravo last summer and plan to continue their pop culture comedy in the future.
